The Flood, Flash Flood & Dam Failure Hydrological Unit provides specialized response capability for flood emergencies — from flash flood events and riverine flooding to dam and levee failures. The unit combines hydrological modeling expertise with swift-water rescue operations, deploying boat teams and aerial assets to rescue flood victims while advising emergency managers on inundation forecasts, evacuation timing, and dam safety decisions under emergency conditions.

Swift-Water Rescue
Deploying trained swift-water rescue teams with boats, helicopters, and personal flotation equipment to rescue flood victims from inundated structures, vehicles, and terrain.
Hydrological Forecasting
Applying hydrological models to forecast flood inundation extent, depth, and timing, providing emergency managers with the data needed for evacuation decisions and resource pre-positioning.
Dam Safety Advisory
Assessing dam and levee conditions under flood loading, advising on emergency spillway operations, controlled releases, and downstream evacuation decisions when structural failure risk is elevated.
