Earthquake, Seismic & Structural Collapse Response Team
Responding to major seismic events with specialized structural collapse rescue and engineering assessment.
Mission Statement
The Earthquake, Seismic & Structural Collapse Response Team provides specialized response capability for major seismic events, combining elite structural collapse search and rescue with rapid engineering assessment of damaged buildings and infrastructure. The team deploys within hours of a major earthquake to conduct life safety search and rescue operations, assess structural integrity of critical facilities, and advise on re-entry decisions that balance survivor access with aftershock risk.
Key Functions
Rapid Deployment
Deploying within hours of a major seismic event to the highest-impact areas, conducting initial life safety assessments and establishing search and rescue operations before the window for live survivor recovery closes.
Structural Assessment
Conducting rapid structural safety assessments of earthquake-damaged buildings and infrastructure, applying ATC-20 and equivalent protocols to determine re-entry safety and prioritize demolition or shoring.
Aftershock Management
Analyzing aftershock sequences and their implications for damaged structure stability, advising incident commanders on search and rescue risk management and re-entry decision-making during active seismic sequences.
