Unit Mission
The Wildlife Corridor Connectivity & Transboundary Migration Task Force designs and advocates for wildlife corridors, landscape linkages, and transboundary conservation areas that maintain ecological connectivity across increasingly fragmented landscapes. The task force applies landscape ecology, movement ecology, and spatial planning to identify critical connectivity bottlenecks, design corridor networks, and develop the cross-border governance arrangements needed to protect migratory species and maintain gene flow between isolated populations.
Key Functions
Connectivity Modeling
Modeling landscape connectivity for focal species — applying circuit theory, least-cost path analysis, and movement ecology data to identify critical linkages and bottlenecks in fragmented landscapes that require corridor protection or restoration.
Corridor Design
Designing wildlife corridor networks that reconnect isolated habitat patches — specifying corridor width, vegetation composition, and management requirements to maintain viable movement for target species across agricultural and developed landscapes.
Transboundary Governance
Developing governance frameworks for transboundary conservation areas — facilitating the bilateral and multilateral agreements needed to coordinate conservation management across national borders for migratory species and shared ecosystems.
