Unit Mission
The Pollution Prevention & Industrial Accountability Task Force promotes source reduction of pollution through technical assistance, regulatory advocacy, and industry engagement — while holding industrial polluters accountable through enforcement support, transparency initiatives, and community right-to-know programs. The task force applies pollution prevention principles, industrial ecology, and regulatory analysis to reduce the generation of hazardous waste and toxic emissions at source, eliminating pollution problems before they require costly remediation.
Key Functions
Source Reduction
Providing technical assistance to industrial facilities on pollution prevention — identifying process modifications, material substitutions, and operational improvements that reduce hazardous waste generation and toxic emissions at source.
Accountability
Supporting enforcement action against industrial polluters — developing evidence of violations, analyzing toxic release data, and advocating for regulatory action against facilities that exceed permitted emission levels or violate environmental law.
Transparency
Advancing community right-to-know through toxic release inventory programs and facility disclosure requirements — ensuring that communities have access to information about industrial pollution in their neighborhoods to support informed advocacy.
