Unit Mission
The Pesticides, Toxics & Chemical Analytics Field Unit conducts field sampling and laboratory analysis of pesticide residues, industrial chemicals, and emerging contaminants in environmental media — providing the analytical data needed to assess human and ecological exposure, evaluate regulatory compliance, and support enforcement action against illegal pesticide use and chemical dumping. The unit applies analytical chemistry, toxicology, and exposure assessment to characterize chemical risks and advise on risk management measures.
Key Functions
Chemical Analysis
Conducting field sampling and laboratory analysis of pesticides, industrial chemicals, and emerging contaminants in soil, water, air, and biological tissues — providing the analytical data needed to characterize exposure and assess regulatory compliance.
Risk Assessment
Assessing the human health and ecological risks of chemical contamination — applying toxicological data and exposure modeling to estimate risk levels, identify priority chemicals of concern, and set protective cleanup and regulatory standards.
Enforcement Support
Supporting regulatory enforcement against illegal pesticide use and chemical dumping — providing analytical evidence, expert testimony, and technical advisory to enforcement agencies pursuing violations of chemical safety regulations.
