Unit Mission
The Nature-Based Solutions Deployment & Field Engineering Unit designs and implements nature-based solutions — ecosystem restoration, green infrastructure, and natural hazard mitigation approaches — that simultaneously deliver biodiversity conservation, climate change mitigation and adaptation, and community wellbeing benefits. The unit applies ecological engineering principles to restore degraded ecosystems, design green infrastructure, and develop nature-based approaches to flood control, coastal protection, and water security that outperform conventional grey infrastructure.
Key Functions
Restoration Engineering
Designing and implementing ecosystem restoration projects — developing technically rigorous restoration plans that specify species composition, planting densities, hydrological interventions, and monitoring protocols to achieve measurable ecological outcomes.
Green Infrastructure
Designing green infrastructure systems that integrate natural elements into urban and peri-urban environments — developing urban forests, green roofs, constructed wetlands, and bioswales that provide ecosystem services while enhancing biodiversity.
Climate Adaptation
Developing nature-based climate adaptation solutions — designing coastal mangrove restoration, floodplain reconnection, and watershed reforestation projects that reduce climate risk while delivering biodiversity and community co-benefits.
