Unit Mission
The Food Security, Zero Hunger & Agricultural Resilience Unit works to strengthen food systems against the compounding threats of climate change, biodiversity loss, and resource depletion — developing climate-resilient agricultural approaches, food system sustainability frameworks, and early warning systems for food crises. The unit applies food systems analysis, agricultural science, and climate adaptation to identify the interventions needed to achieve zero hunger while maintaining the ecological foundations on which food production depends.
Key Functions
Food Security Monitoring
Operating food security monitoring and early warning systems — tracking crop production, market prices, and livelihood indicators to detect emerging food crises and trigger timely humanitarian response before acute malnutrition develops.
Climate Adaptation
Developing climate-resilient agricultural approaches — promoting drought-tolerant varieties, conservation agriculture, and agroforestry systems that maintain productivity under changing climate conditions and reduce vulnerability to weather shocks.
System Sustainability
Analyzing food system sustainability — assessing the environmental footprint of food production, identifying unsustainable resource use patterns, and developing pathways to food systems that nourish people within planetary boundaries.
