Unit Mission
The Climate Displacement & Eco-Refugee Humanitarian Logistics Team develops humanitarian response frameworks for populations displaced by climate change — sea-level rise, desertification, extreme weather, and ecosystem collapse — and advocates for the legal recognition and protection of climate refugees. The team applies humanitarian logistics, displacement law, and climate science to develop anticipatory action frameworks, planned relocation programs, and legal protection mechanisms for the growing population of climate-displaced people.
Key Functions
Displacement Forecasting
Forecasting climate displacement risk — modeling the populations and locations most likely to face displacement from sea-level rise, desertification, and extreme weather to enable anticipatory action before displacement occurs.
Planned Relocation
Developing planned relocation programs for communities facing inevitable displacement — designing participatory relocation processes, destination site development, and livelihood restoration programs that maintain community cohesion.
Legal Protection
Advocating for legal protection frameworks for climate-displaced people — engaging with UNHCR, IOM, and national governments to develop the legal definitions, protection mechanisms, and durable solutions needed for climate refugees.
