Unit Mission
The Clean Water, Sanitation Security & Hygiene Task Force works to achieve universal access to safe water, adequate sanitation, and good hygiene — addressing the WASH deficits that cause preventable disease and undermine human dignity for billions of people. The task force assesses WASH coverage gaps, develops climate-resilient water supply and sanitation infrastructure, and advocates for the policy and financing frameworks needed to achieve SDG 6 targets, with particular attention to the impacts of climate change on water availability and quality.
Key Functions
Coverage Assessment
Assessing WASH coverage gaps — mapping access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene across populations to identify underserved communities and quantify the infrastructure investment needed to achieve universal access.
Infrastructure Development
Developing climate-resilient water supply and sanitation infrastructure — designing systems that maintain service delivery under climate variability, including drought-resilient water sources and flood-resistant sanitation facilities.
Emergency WASH
Providing WASH services in humanitarian emergencies — rapidly deploying water treatment, sanitation facilities, and hygiene supplies to disaster-affected populations to prevent waterborne disease outbreaks.
