The Seismic Resilience & Earthquake Dampening Engineering Unit engineers seismic resilience systems and earthquake dampening technologies — designing and implementing base isolation, damping systems, and seismic retrofits that protect buildings and infrastructure from earthquake damage. The unit applies structural dynamics, earthquake engineering, and seismic protection technology to develop the engineering solutions needed to make the built environment more resilient to seismic hazards.

Isolation Systems

Designing base isolation systems — engineering the seismic isolation bearings, sliding systems, and pendulum isolators that decouple buildings from ground motion, dramatically reducing earthquake forces on structures.

Damping Technology

Engineering earthquake damping systems — developing viscous dampers, friction dampers, and tuned mass dampers that dissipate seismic energy and reduce structural response to earthquake ground motion.
