Pesticides, Toxics & Chemical Analytics Field Unit

Remediation

Pesticides, Toxics & Chemical Analytics Field Unit

Analyzing pesticide and toxic chemical contamination in the environment to protect ecosystems and human health.

Unit Mission

The Pesticides, Toxics & Chemical Analytics Field Unit analyzes pesticide and toxic chemical contamination in the environment — conducting field sampling, laboratory analysis, and risk assessment to characterize pesticide and toxic chemical exposures and assess their impacts on ecosystems and human health. The unit applies analytical chemistry, toxicology, and environmental monitoring to detect and quantify pesticides, persistent organic pollutants, and other toxic chemicals in soil, water, air, and biota, providing the data needed for risk assessment and regulatory action.

Key Functions

Chemical Analysis

Analyzing pesticide and toxic chemical contamination — conducting field sampling and laboratory analysis to detect and quantify pesticides, POPs, and other toxic chemicals in environmental media and biological samples.

Fate and Transport

Analyzing environmental fate and transport of toxic chemicals — modeling the movement, transformation, and bioaccumulation of pesticides and toxic chemicals in environmental systems to assess exposure pathways.

Risk Assessment

Conducting ecological and human health risk assessments — evaluating the risks posed by pesticide and toxic chemical contamination to ecosystems and human populations, providing the evidence needed for regulatory action.

Operational Capabilities

Pesticide residue analysis
Persistent organic pollutant monitoring
Toxic chemical field sampling
Environmental fate and transport analysis
Ecological risk assessment
Human health risk assessment
