Hurricane, Cyclone & Coastal Surge Strike Team
Responding to hurricane and cyclone impacts with pre-landfall preparation, surge rescue, and post-storm recovery operations.
Unit Mission
The Hurricane, Cyclone & Coastal Surge Strike Team responds to hurricane and cyclone impacts — conducting pre-landfall preparation, storm surge rescue operations, and post-storm recovery across the full cycle of tropical cyclone response. The team applies tropical cyclone response doctrine, storm surge rescue, and coastal disaster management to pre-position resources, conduct life-safety operations in the immediate post-landfall period, and manage the complex recovery from wind, surge, and rainfall impacts across coastal communities.
Key Functions
Pre-Landfall Operations
Conducting pre-landfall preparation — pre-positioning response resources, coordinating evacuation support, and implementing the preparedness measures needed to maximize response effectiveness in the immediate post-landfall period.
Surge Rescue
Executing storm surge rescue operations — deploying boat teams and helicopter assets to rescue people trapped by storm surge flooding in the dangerous immediate post-landfall environment.
Recovery Coordination
Coordinating post-hurricane recovery — managing debris clearance, infrastructure assessment, and utility restoration to restore access and services to hurricane-affected communities.
