Unit Mission

The Hazardous Waste & Superfund Site Remediation Team remediates hazardous waste sites and Superfund contamination — conducting site investigations, designing remediation systems, and managing cleanup operations that restore contaminated land and water to safe conditions. The team applies environmental engineering, remediation technology, and regulatory compliance to characterize contamination, select appropriate remediation approaches, and execute the cleanup operations needed to protect public health and restore environmental quality at hazardous waste sites.

Key Functions

Site Investigation

Conducting contaminated site investigations — characterizing the nature and extent of hazardous waste contamination through soil sampling, groundwater monitoring, and geophysical surveys to develop the data needed for remediation design.

Remediation Design

Designing hazardous waste remediation systems — selecting and engineering the treatment technologies, containment systems, and institutional controls needed to achieve cleanup goals and protect human health and the environment.

Cleanup Operations

Managing hazardous waste cleanup operations — overseeing soil excavation, groundwater treatment, and waste disposal to execute remediation plans safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory requirements.
