Hazard Risk Assessment & Mitigation Planning Task Force

Command

Hazard Risk Assessment & Mitigation Planning Task Force

Assessing multi-hazard risks and developing mitigation plans that reduce disaster vulnerability before crises strike.

Unit Mission

The Hazard Risk Assessment & Mitigation Planning Task Force assesses multi-hazard risks and develops mitigation plans that reduce disaster vulnerability — conducting comprehensive hazard analyses, vulnerability assessments, and risk modeling to identify the threats facing communities and develop the mitigation strategies needed to reduce their impact. The task force applies risk science, hazard modeling, and mitigation planning to produce the risk assessments and mitigation plans that guide pre-disaster investment, land-use decisions, and preparedness activities.

Key Functions

Risk Assessment

Conducting multi-hazard risk assessments — analyzing the probability and consequence of natural and man-made hazards, assessing community vulnerability and exposure, and producing the risk profiles needed for mitigation planning.

Mitigation Planning

Developing hazard mitigation plans — identifying mitigation actions, prioritizing investments, and developing the implementation strategies needed to reduce community vulnerability to the hazards they face.

Risk Communication

Communicating risk to communities and decision-makers — translating technical risk assessments into accessible formats that enable informed decisions about mitigation investment, land use, and preparedness.

Operational Capabilities

Multi-hazard risk assessment
Vulnerability and exposure analysis
Risk modeling and mapping
Mitigation plan development
Cost-benefit analysis of mitigation
Community risk communication
