Earthquake, Seismic & Structural Collapse Response Team
Responding to earthquakes and structural collapses with life-safety operations, structural assessment, and survivor rescue.
Unit Mission
The Earthquake, Seismic & Structural Collapse Response Team responds to earthquakes and structural collapses — deploying USAR specialists, structural engineers, and medical teams to conduct life-safety operations, assess structural damage, and rescue survivors from collapsed buildings and infrastructure. The team applies seismic response doctrine, structural collapse rescue, and post-earthquake assessment to conduct rapid damage surveys, prioritize rescue operations, and implement the safety measures needed to protect responders and survivors in unstable post-earthquake environments.
Key Functions
Rapid Assessment
Conducting post-earthquake rapid damage assessments — deploying structural engineers to assess building safety, tag structures for occupancy, and identify the collapse risks that guide rescue prioritization and responder safety.
Collapse Rescue
Executing structural collapse rescue operations — deploying USAR teams to locate and extract survivors from earthquake-damaged structures, applying technical rescue techniques in the unstable post-earthquake environment.
Community Assessment
Assessing earthquake impacts on communities — evaluating infrastructure damage, utility disruption, and population displacement to develop the situational picture needed for effective response coordination and resource allocation.
