Disaster Mortuary & Mass-Fatality Identification Team

Command

Disaster Mortuary & Mass-Fatality Identification Team

Applying forensic science to identify mass disaster victims and return them to their families.

Unit Mission

The Disaster Mortuary & Mass-Fatality Identification Team applies forensic science to identify mass disaster victims — deploying forensic pathologists, odontologists, fingerprint specialists, and DNA analysts to conduct the systematic identification of victims from large-scale disasters. The team applies Disaster Victim Identification protocols, forensic science, and ante-mortem/post-mortem data comparison to produce the authoritative identifications that enable death certification, estate settlement, and the return of victims to their families.

Key Functions

DVI Operations

Conducting Disaster Victim Identification operations — applying Interpol DVI protocols to systematically collect post-mortem data, manage ante-mortem records, and produce the forensic comparisons needed for victim identification.

Forensic Examination
