Unit Mission
The Desalination, Reverse Osmosis & Water Purification Engineering Team engineers desalination and water purification systems — designing and deploying reverse osmosis, ultrafiltration, and other purification technologies that provide safe drinking water in water-scarce and disaster-affected environments. The team applies membrane technology, water chemistry, and systems engineering to develop portable, scalable, and energy-efficient water purification solutions that can be rapidly deployed to provide safe water in emergencies and water-stressed communities.
Key Functions
RO System Design
Designing reverse osmosis water purification systems — engineering membrane systems, pre-treatment processes, and post-treatment steps that produce safe drinking water from seawater, brackish water, and contaminated sources.
Emergency Deployment
Deploying emergency water purification systems — rapidly deploying portable purification units to disaster-affected areas to provide safe drinking water when normal water supply systems are disrupted.
Energy Efficiency
Developing energy-efficient purification technologies — engineering low-energy desalination and purification systems that can operate on renewable energy sources, enabling water supply in off-grid and resource-limited environments.
