Unit Mission
The Critical Infrastructure Perimeter & Sector Defense Unit defends critical infrastructure perimeters and sectors from physical and cyber-physical threats — assessing vulnerabilities, designing protective systems, and implementing the security measures needed to protect power grids, water systems, transportation networks, and other critical infrastructure from attack and disruption. The unit applies critical infrastructure protection, physical security engineering, and cyber-physical systems security to develop the layered defense architectures that protect essential services from the full spectrum of threats.
Key Functions
Vulnerability Assessment
Assessing critical infrastructure vulnerabilities — conducting systematic evaluations of physical security, cyber-physical interfaces, and interdependency risks to identify the weaknesses that adversaries could exploit to disrupt essential services.
Perimeter Security
Designing critical infrastructure perimeter security — developing layered physical security systems, access control measures, and detection capabilities that protect infrastructure facilities from unauthorized access and attack.
Sector Defense Planning
Developing sector defense plans — creating comprehensive protection strategies for critical infrastructure sectors that integrate physical security, cyber protection, and resilience measures to ensure service continuity under threat.
