Unit Mission
The Community Evacuation & Transit Corridor Logistics Unit plans and executes community evacuations — developing evacuation plans, managing transit corridors, and coordinating the transportation assets needed to move populations safely away from imminent hazards. The unit applies evacuation science, traffic management, and transportation logistics to develop evacuation routes, manage contraflow operations, coordinate transportation for mobility-impaired populations, and execute the large-scale population movements that protect communities from approaching disasters.
Key Functions
Evacuation Planning
Developing community evacuation plans — analyzing hazard scenarios, identifying evacuation zones, designing transit corridors, and developing the operational plans needed to move populations safely from threatened areas.
Corridor Management
Managing evacuation transit corridors — coordinating traffic management, contraflow operations, and fuel distribution to maximize the throughput of evacuation routes and minimize the time populations spend in hazard zones.
Special Needs Transport
Coordinating transportation for mobility-impaired and special needs populations — identifying transportation-dependent residents, pre-positioning accessible vehicles, and executing the specialized evacuation operations needed to ensure no one is left behind.
