The Coastal Resilience & Sea-Level Rise Engineering Unit engineers coastal resilience solutions — designing nature-based and engineered coastal protection systems, developing adaptation strategies, and providing the technical guidance needed to protect coastal communities from sea-level rise and intensifying coastal hazards. The unit applies coastal engineering, sea-level rise science, and adaptation planning to develop the integrated coastal management approaches that build long-term coastal resilience.

Engineering coastal protection systems — designing seawalls, living shorelines, beach nourishment programs, and hybrid protection systems that protect coastal communities from storm surge, erosion, and sea-level rise.
Nature-Based Solutions
Engineering nature-based coastal protection — designing mangrove restoration, oyster reef construction, and dune stabilization systems that provide coastal protection while delivering ecological co-benefits.
Adaptation Planning
Developing coastal adaptation plans — assessing sea-level rise vulnerability, evaluating protection options, and developing the long-term adaptation strategies needed to maintain coastal community viability under rising seas.
