Unit Mission
The Climatology & Exascale Greenhouse Gas Tracking Center tracks greenhouse gas concentrations and climate change at exascale resolution — operating atmospheric monitoring networks, developing high-resolution climate models, and producing the climate science needed to understand climate change dynamics and inform mitigation and adaptation policy. The center applies climatology, atmospheric chemistry, and high-performance computing to monitor greenhouse gas concentrations, model climate system responses, and produce the authoritative climate assessments that guide global climate action.
Key Functions
GHG Monitoring
Monitoring greenhouse gas concentrations — operating atmospheric measurement networks to track CO2, methane, and other greenhouse gases, providing the data needed to assess emission trends and carbon cycle dynamics.
Climate Modeling
Developing high-resolution climate models — applying exascale computing to simulate climate system dynamics at unprecedented resolution, improving the accuracy of climate projections and regional impact assessments.
Policy Science
Providing climate science for policy — producing the authoritative climate assessments, attribution analyses, and projection scenarios that inform national and international climate mitigation and adaptation policy.
