Unit Mission
The Circular Economy & Waste Reduction Implementation Task Force implements circular economy systems and waste reduction programs — designing and deploying the material flow systems, product design standards, and waste management approaches needed to transition from linear to circular economic models that eliminate waste and pollution at the source. The task force applies industrial ecology, circular economy design, and waste management to develop the practical implementation strategies needed to reduce waste generation, recover materials, and build circular systems that minimize environmental impact.
Key Functions
Circular System Design
Designing circular economy systems — developing the material flow architectures, product design standards, and recovery infrastructure needed to keep materials in productive use and eliminate waste from economic systems.
Waste Reduction Programs
Implementing waste reduction programs — developing and deploying source reduction, reuse, and recycling initiatives that reduce waste generation and divert materials from landfill and incineration.
Industrial Symbiosis
Facilitating industrial symbiosis — connecting industrial facilities to exchange waste streams as inputs, creating the industrial ecosystems that eliminate waste through material and energy cascading.
