CBRN & Hazardous Materials Incident Field Response Team
Responding to CBRN and hazardous materials incidents with detection, containment, and decontamination operations.
Unit Mission
The CBRN & Hazardous Materials Incident Field Response Team responds to chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and hazardous materials incidents — deploying detection specialists, containment teams, and decontamination units to identify hazardous agents, contain releases, and protect responders and the public from CBRN and hazmat threats. The team applies CBRN response doctrine, hazmat operations, and decontamination science to conduct the detection, containment, and decontamination operations needed to mitigate CBRN and hazmat incidents.
Key Functions
Detection Operations
Conducting CBRN and hazmat detection — deploying detection equipment and specialist teams to identify hazardous agents, characterize releases, and establish the hazard zones needed to protect responders and the public.
Containment Operations
Executing hazmat containment operations — deploying containment teams to stop or reduce hazardous material releases, implement isolation measures, and prevent the spread of contamination.
Decontamination
Operating mass decontamination systems — establishing decontamination corridors, processing contaminated casualties and responders, and implementing the decontamination protocols needed to prevent secondary contamination.
