Unit Mission

The Air Quality, Greenhouse Gases & Emissions Monitoring Unit monitors air quality and greenhouse gas emissions — operating monitoring networks, analyzing emission sources, and producing the data needed to protect public health from air pollution and advance accountability for greenhouse gas emissions. The unit applies atmospheric science, air quality monitoring, and emissions measurement to characterize air pollution levels, identify emission sources, and provide the monitoring data needed for regulatory compliance, public health protection, and climate accountability.

Key Functions

Air Quality Monitoring

Operating air quality monitoring networks — measuring criteria pollutants, toxic air contaminants, and particulate matter to characterize air quality, identify pollution episodes, and assess public health risks.

GHG Measurement

Measuring greenhouse gas emissions — deploying atmospheric monitoring systems to quantify CO2, methane, and other greenhouse gas emissions from industrial, agricultural, and urban sources for climate accountability.

Source Attribution

Attributing air pollution to emission sources — applying receptor modeling, dispersion analysis, and isotopic techniques to identify the sources responsible for air quality violations and greenhouse gas emissions.
