Research Mission
The UAV Aeronautical Engineering Team designs, builds, and tests unmanned aerial vehicle platforms optimized for reconnaissance, logistics support, communications relay, and humanitarian delivery in austere and contested environments. The team applies aeronautical engineering, propulsion systems design, and avionics integration to develop UAV systems that are reliable, maintainable, and effective across the full range of DARAS operational contexts — from disaster response to remote area resupply.
Key Research Functions
Platform Engineering
Designing and building UAV airframes optimized for specific mission profiles — balancing endurance, payload capacity, speed, and survivability to meet DARAS operational requirements across diverse environments.
Avionics Integration
Integrating flight control, navigation, communications, and sensor systems into cohesive UAV avionics architectures — ensuring reliable autonomous operation and robust data links in contested electromagnetic environments.
Humanitarian Applications
Adapting UAV platforms for humanitarian delivery missions — medical supply drops, communications relay, and search and rescue support — developing the operational concepts and logistics integration needed for effective humanitarian UAV operations.
