Research Mission
The Toxicology & Chemical Exposure Biological Response Lab investigates the biological mechanisms by which chemical agents — industrial toxicants, environmental pollutants, chemical warfare agents, and pharmaceutical compounds — cause harm to living systems. The lab characterizes dose-response relationships, identifies molecular mechanisms of toxicity, and develops biomarkers of exposure and effect that inform treatment protocols, safety standards, and medical countermeasure development.
Key Research Functions
Toxicity Mechanism Research
Investigating the molecular and cellular mechanisms by which chemical agents cause biological harm — identifying the targets, pathways, and processes that mediate toxicity and inform countermeasure design.
Biomarker Development
Developing biomarkers of chemical exposure and effect that enable early detection of toxic exposure, monitoring of treatment response, and assessment of long-term health impacts.
Countermeasure Evaluation
Evaluating antidotes and medical countermeasures against chemical toxicants — assessing efficacy, safety, and optimal treatment protocols for chemical exposure scenarios relevant to DARAS operations.
