Research Mission

The Secure Network Architecture & Field-Cryptography Engineering Unit designs secure network architectures and develops field-deployable cryptographic systems that protect DARAS operational communications in contested environments. The unit applies network security engineering, cryptographic protocol design, and hardware security to create communications infrastructure that maintains confidentiality, integrity, and availability against sophisticated adversaries — from tactical field networks to strategic command and control systems.

Key Research Functions

Network Security Design

Designing secure network architectures for DARAS operational environments — applying zero-trust principles, network segmentation, and encrypted communications to protect sensitive data and command and control functions.

Field Cryptography

Developing and deploying field-hardened cryptographic systems that protect communications in austere environments — designing for reliability, ease of use, and resistance to physical compromise in operational field conditions.

Post-Quantum Transition

Planning and executing the transition to post-quantum cryptographic algorithms — assessing current cryptographic infrastructure, prioritizing migration of highest-risk systems, and implementing quantum-resistant protocols.
