Psychology of Post-Traumatic Stress & Resilience Analytics

Investigating post-traumatic stress and psychological resilience to advance mental health support in disaster-affected populations.

Research Mission

The Psychology of Post-Traumatic Stress & Resilience Analytics unit investigates the psychological impacts of disasters, conflict, and displacement on affected populations — characterizing the prevalence and determinants of post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, and other mental health conditions, and identifying the individual and community factors that promote psychological resilience. The unit develops evidence-based mental health intervention frameworks and advises DARAS programs on integrating psychological support into disaster response and recovery operations.

Key Research Functions

Mental Health Assessment

Conducting post-disaster mental health needs assessments that quantify the prevalence of PTSD, depression, and anxiety in affected populations — identifying high-risk groups and geographic concentrations of mental health need to target psychosocial support.

Resilience Research

Investigating the individual, social, and community factors that promote psychological resilience following disasters — identifying protective factors that can be strengthened through programmatic intervention to reduce long-term mental health burden.

Intervention Design

Developing and evaluating evidence-based psychosocial support interventions for disaster-affected populations — designing scalable mental health programs that can be delivered by non-specialist community workers in resource-constrained settings.

Research Capabilities

Post-disaster mental health needs assessment
PTSD prevalence and risk factor research
Psychological resilience factor analysis
Psychosocial support program evaluation
Trauma-informed care framework development
Mental health surveillance system design
