Research Mission

The Mineralogy & Critical Resource Scarcity Mapping Team investigates the mineralogy, geochemistry, and distribution of critical mineral resources — rare earth elements, battery metals, platinum group metals, and other strategic materials — and assesses supply chain vulnerabilities and scarcity risks. The team conducts geological mapping, geochemical surveys, and resource assessments to identify critical mineral deposits and evaluate the strategic implications of resource concentration and supply disruption.

Key Research Functions

Resource Mapping

Mapping the global distribution of critical mineral deposits — characterizing deposit geology, grade, and tonnage to assess resource availability and identify regions of strategic importance for critical mineral supply.

Scarcity Assessment

Assessing critical mineral supply chain vulnerabilities and scarcity risks — analyzing production concentration, geopolitical factors, and demand growth trajectories to identify materials at risk of supply disruption.

Secondary Resources

Evaluating the potential of secondary sources — mine tailings, electronic waste, and industrial by-products — to supplement primary critical mineral supply, reducing dependence on geopolitically concentrated primary deposits.
