Mechanical Engineering & Heavy-Extraction Machinery Lab

Designing and operating heavy extraction machinery for disaster rescue, mining, and infrastructure recovery operations.

Research Mission

The Mechanical Engineering & Heavy-Extraction Machinery Lab designs, evaluates, and operates heavy mechanical systems for disaster rescue, structural debris removal, mining operations, and infrastructure recovery. The lab applies mechanical engineering, hydraulics, and materials science to develop extraction machinery that performs reliably under the extreme loads and harsh conditions of disaster and industrial environments — providing the mechanical engineering capability needed for DARAS's heavy rescue and infrastructure recovery programs.

Key Research Functions

Heavy Rescue Engineering

Designing and evaluating mechanical systems for heavy urban search and rescue — shoring systems, cutting and spreading tools, lifting equipment, and debris removal machinery optimized for collapsed structure environments.

Hydraulic Systems

Engineering hydraulic power and actuation systems for heavy extraction machinery — designing circuits, components, and control systems that deliver the force and precision needed for structural rescue and extraction operations.

Reliability Engineering

Applying reliability engineering principles to heavy machinery design — conducting failure mode analysis, developing maintenance protocols, and designing redundancy into critical systems to ensure operational availability when lives depend on it.
