Research Mission
The Inorganic Chemistry & Advanced Metallurgical Lab investigates the synthesis, characterization, and application of inorganic compounds and metallic materials — from coordination complexes and ceramic materials to high-performance alloys and refractory metals. The lab develops materials that perform under extreme conditions of temperature, pressure, radiation, and corrosion — providing the inorganic chemistry and metallurgical expertise that underpins DARAS's advanced materials programs.
Key Research Functions
Inorganic Synthesis
Synthesizing and characterizing inorganic compounds — coordination complexes, metal-organic frameworks, ceramic precursors, and intermetallic phases — with targeted electronic, magnetic, optical, or catalytic properties.
Metallurgical Development
Designing and characterizing advanced metallic materials — high-entropy alloys, superalloys, and refractory metals — that maintain structural integrity and functional performance under extreme temperature, stress, and radiation environments.
Corrosion Protection
Investigating corrosion mechanisms and developing protective coatings, inhibitors, and alloy compositions that extend the service life of metallic structures in aggressive chemical and marine environments.
