Conducting high-containment research on the world's most dangerous pathogens to develop life-saving countermeasures.

Research Mission

The High-Containment Research & Neutralization Center operates BSL-3 and BSL-4 laboratory facilities to conduct research on the world's most dangerous pathogens — those with pandemic potential or bioterrorism relevance that require maximum containment. The center investigates pathogen biology, develops and evaluates vaccines and therapeutics, and conducts neutralization studies that characterize countermeasure efficacy against high-consequence biological threats.

Key Research Functions

High-Containment Research

Conducting research on BSL-3 and BSL-4 pathogens under maximum containment conditions — characterizing pathogen biology, virulence mechanisms, and host interactions to identify countermeasure targets.

Countermeasure Evaluation

Evaluating vaccines, therapeutics, and prophylactics against high-consequence pathogens under containment — generating the efficacy data needed to advance countermeasures toward regulatory approval.

Biosafety Management

Maintaining the highest standards of biosafety and biosecurity in high-containment operations — managing personnel training, containment systems, emergency response, and regulatory compliance for select agent research.
