Research Mission
The Environmental Chemistry & Pollution Analysis Team investigates the sources, transport, transformation, and fate of chemical pollutants in air, water, soil, and biota — generating the chemical data and mechanistic understanding needed to assess environmental contamination, evaluate health risks, and design effective remediation strategies. The team applies field sampling, laboratory analysis, and environmental modeling to characterize pollution at local, regional, and global scales.
Key Research Functions
Pollution Characterization
Characterizing chemical contamination in environmental matrices — identifying pollutant sources, measuring concentrations, and determining chemical speciation to assess exposure and ecological risk.
Fate and Transport Modeling
Modeling the environmental fate and transport of chemical pollutants — predicting how contaminants move through air, water, and soil systems and accumulate in food webs to inform risk assessment and remediation planning.
Regulatory Support
Providing the chemical data and scientific interpretation needed to support environmental regulatory decisions — generating defensible analytical results and expert assessment for contaminated site management and pollution control.
