Research Mission

The Electromagnetics & Directed Energy Systems Research Unit investigates electromagnetic phenomena and develops directed energy technologies for sensing, communications, electronic warfare, and infrastructure protection applications. The unit conducts research in antenna design, electromagnetic compatibility, high-power microwave systems, and laser technologies — providing the electromagnetic engineering expertise that underpins DARAS's advanced sensing, communications, and directed energy programs.

Key Research Functions

Antenna Engineering

Designing and characterizing antenna systems for communications, radar, and electronic warfare applications — developing compact, wideband, and conformal antenna solutions for integration into DARAS platforms and systems.

Directed Energy Research

Investigating high-power microwave and laser directed energy technologies — characterizing system performance, target interaction effects, and operational employment concepts for directed energy applications.

EMP Protection

Developing electromagnetic pulse protection solutions for critical infrastructure and electronic systems — analyzing EMP threat environments, designing hardening measures, and validating protection effectiveness through testing.
