Research Mission

The Electrical Engineering & High-Voltage Microgrid Lab designs and evaluates microgrid systems and high-voltage electrical infrastructure that provide resilient, reliable power to critical facilities and communities. The lab conducts power systems analysis, microgrid control design, and grid integration engineering — developing the electrical infrastructure solutions needed to maintain power continuity for DARAS operations and the communities it serves, including in disaster-affected and off-grid settings.

Key Research Functions

Microgrid Design

Designing microgrid systems that integrate distributed generation, energy storage, and load management to provide reliable power with islanding capability — enabling critical facilities to maintain operations during grid outages.

Power Systems Engineering

Conducting power flow analysis, fault studies, and protection coordination for high-voltage electrical systems — ensuring safe, reliable operation of electrical infrastructure under normal and fault conditions.

Renewable Integration

Engineering the integration of solar, wind, and other renewable sources into microgrid and grid-connected systems — developing the control and storage solutions that manage variability and maintain power quality.
