Research Mission
The Desalination, Reverse Osmosis & Water Purification Engineering Team designs, builds, and deploys water purification systems — from reverse osmosis desalination units to rapid-deployment field water treatment systems — that provide safe drinking water in water-scarce regions and disaster-affected communities. The team applies membrane engineering, process design, and systems integration to create robust, energy-efficient purification systems that operate reliably in austere conditions.
Key Research Functions
System Design
Designing complete reverse osmosis and water purification systems — from membrane selection and pre-treatment through post-treatment and distribution — optimized for the water quality, capacity, and energy constraints of specific deployment contexts.
Rapid Deployment
Engineering containerized and modular water purification systems for rapid deployment in disaster response and humanitarian operations — developing systems that can be transported, installed, and operational within hours of arrival.
Renewable Integration
Integrating solar and other renewable energy sources with desalination and purification systems — developing energy management strategies that minimize operating costs and enable off-grid water production in remote and disaster-affected areas.
