Research Mission

The Climatology & Exascale Greenhouse Gas Tracking Center monitors greenhouse gas concentrations, investigates climate system dynamics, and develops high-resolution climate models to advance understanding of anthropogenic climate change and its regional impacts. The center operates atmospheric monitoring networks, conducts paleoclimate research, and runs exascale climate simulations — providing the climate science foundation for DARAS's environmental, disaster, and health security programs.

Key Research Functions

GHG Monitoring

Operating atmospheric monitoring networks that track greenhouse gas concentrations — CO2, methane, nitrous oxide, and fluorinated gases — with the precision and spatial coverage needed to detect emission trends and attribute sources.

Climate Modeling

Developing and running exascale climate models that simulate the full Earth system — atmosphere, ocean, land surface, and cryosphere — at resolutions that capture regional climate processes and extreme events.

Climate Attribution

Conducting climate attribution research that quantifies the contribution of anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions to observed climate changes — providing the scientific basis for climate policy and legal frameworks.
