Research Mission

The Chemical Remediation & Heavy-Metal Neutralization Lab develops and applies chemical technologies to remediate contaminated soils, sediments, and water — with particular expertise in heavy metal immobilization, chemical oxidation and reduction, and in-situ treatment approaches. The lab investigates the chemistry of contaminant-soil-water interactions, develops targeted remediation reagents, and validates treatment effectiveness — providing the chemical remediation solutions needed to restore contaminated sites and protect human and ecosystem health.

Key Research Functions

Heavy Metal Remediation

Developing chemical immobilization and extraction strategies for heavy metal contamination — applying phosphate amendments, iron-based sorbents, and chelating agents to reduce metal bioavailability and mobility in contaminated soils.

In-Situ Treatment

Developing in-situ chemical treatment approaches for contaminated sites — applying chemical oxidants, reductants, and reactive barriers that destroy or immobilize contaminants without excavation.

Water Treatment Chemistry

Developing chemical treatment processes for contaminated water — coagulation, precipitation, ion exchange, and advanced oxidation — that achieve regulatory compliance for heavy metals and organic contaminants.
