Research Mission
The Biochemistry & Molecular Biophysics Center investigates the chemical and physical principles that govern the structure, dynamics, and function of biological macromolecules — proteins, nucleic acids, lipids, and carbohydrates. The center applies structural biology, biophysical characterization, and biochemical analysis to understand how molecular architecture determines biological function — providing the mechanistic insights that guide drug discovery, diagnostic development, and biotechnology applications across DARAS programs.
Key Research Functions
Structural Biology
Determining the three-dimensional structures of biological macromolecules using cryo-electron microscopy and X-ray crystallography — revealing the structural basis of protein function and enabling structure-guided drug design.
Biophysical Characterization
Characterizing the binding, thermodynamics, and dynamics of biomolecular interactions using surface plasmon resonance, isothermal titration calorimetry, and other biophysical techniques — quantifying the molecular interactions that drive biological processes.
Enzyme Biochemistry
Investigating enzyme mechanisms, kinetics, and regulation — characterizing the catalytic machinery of enzymes relevant to pathogen virulence, metabolic disease, and biotechnology applications.
